What Can You Put in a Dumpster Rental? — West Texas Guide

Most everyday household and construction debris is accepted. But some materials are restricted by the landfill or state regulations — and loading the wrong item can mean a refused load or extra charges. Here's the complete, plain-English breakdown for Let Us Dump It customers across West Texas and the Permian Basin.

⚠️

Special Handling: Plastic Pipe or PVC Over 4 Feet Long

Plastic pipe or PVC longer than 4 feet carries a $90 surcharge — a fee charged by the Midland landfill, not by us. Pipe under 4 feet is accepted at no additional charge. If you're unsure, text us a photo before loading and we'll confirm immediately.

🏠 Household & Furniture

Accepted

  • Sofas, couches & armchairs
  • Mattresses & bed frames
  • Dressers, tables & chairs
  • Clothing, textiles & linens
  • Books, papers & office supplies
  • Toys, games & hobby items
  • Boxes & packing materials
  • Rugs & carpet (rolled or cut)
  • Mirrors & picture frames
  • Small appliances (microwaves, toasters)
🚫

Not Accepted

  • TVs, monitors, computers — regulated e-waste
  • Printers, copiers & electronics
  • Lithium batteries (phones, laptops)
  • Propane tanks & gas canisters

🔌 Large Appliances

Accepted

  • Washers & dryers (~175 lbs each)
  • Refrigerators & freezers (~300 lbs)
  • Stoves, ovens & ranges (~130 lbs)
  • Dishwashers (~75 lbs)
  • Water heaters (~140 lbs)
  • Window & central A/C units
  • Hot water tanks & boilers

⚠️ Appliances are heavy — factor their weight into your tonnage estimate.

🚫

Not Accepted

  • Refrigerants must be removed before disposal — appliances with intact refrigerant require certified evacuation first. Confirm with us if unsure.

🏗️ Construction & Renovation

Accepted

  • Drywall & plaster
  • Lumber, studs & framing wood
  • Flooring — tile, hardwood, laminate, vinyl
  • Windows & doors (residential)
  • Cabinets & countertops
  • Metal scrap & ductwork
  • Pipes & fittings (PVC under 4 ft — see surcharge note for longer)
  • Insulation (non-asbestos)
  • Concrete, brick & block
  • Gravel & rock
  • Mixed construction debris
🚫

Not Accepted

  • Asbestos materials — requires licensed abatement. Common in pre-1980 homes (floor tiles, insulation, pipe wrap). Test before demo.
  • Lead paint debris in large quantities — requires special handling
  • Contaminated soil

🔨 Roofing Materials

Accepted

  • Asphalt shingles (~250 lbs per square)
  • OSB & plywood decking
  • Underlayment & roofing felt
  • Fascia, soffit & trim
  • Gutters & downspouts
  • Ridge vents & flashing

⚠️ Shingles are very heavy. A 2,000 sq ft roof generates ~5,000 lbs of material. Monitor your weight limit carefully — or call us to size correctly.

🚫

Not Accepted

  • Asbestos-containing roofing materials (older built-up or asbestos shingles) — test first

🌿 Yard & Landscaping

Accepted

  • Tree limbs, branches & brush
  • Sod & turf
  • Dirt & fill material
  • Leaves & bagged garden debris
  • Fencing — wood, chain link, posts
  • Sheds & outbuilding panels
  • Pavers & landscape rock
  • Storm debris (wind, hail damage)

⚠️ Dirt and sod are heavy — 90–100 lbs per cubic foot. Even a 15-yd dumpster half-full of dirt can exceed weight limits.

🚫

Not Accepted

  • Pesticides, herbicides & fertilizers
  • Contaminated or chemically treated soil

☣️ Never Accepted — Hazardous Materials

🚫

Chemicals & Liquids

  • Paint cans with liquid paint
  • Motor oil & transmission fluid
  • Gasoline, diesel & fuel
  • Solvents, thinners & cleaners
  • Pool chemicals & bleach
  • Pesticides & herbicides
  • Antifreeze & brake fluid
  • Any liquid waste of any kind
🚫

Regulated Items

  • Old tires (any quantity)
  • Car & lead-acid batteries
  • Asbestos materials
  • Medical & biohazard waste
  • Railroad ties (creosote-treated)
  • Propane tanks (any size)
  • Ammunition & explosives
  • Radioactive materials

🚛 Services We Don't Offer

  • Curbside / drop-and-wait service — we deliver the container, you fill it, we pick it up. We don't wait at the curb.
  • Single-item pickup — we're a roll-off rental service, not a junk removal company. For one couch or appliance, a junk hauler is a better fit.
Not sure if your item is accepted? Ask before you load.

60-second call or text — we'd rather confirm now than have a refused load at the landfill.
