Do You Need a Permit to Rent a Dumpster in West Texas?

The answer depends on one thing: where the dumpster is placed. Private driveway or property — almost never. Public street or sidewalk — almost always. Here's the complete city-by-city breakdown for all 12 cities Let Us Dump It serves across the Permian Basin.

Private Property — Generally No Permit

When placed on your private driveway, yard, or property, a dumpster typically requires no permit in any of our 12 service cities. This covers the vast majority of residential and commercial rentals. The key is that the dumpster must be fully on your property and not blocking a public sidewalk, fire hydrant, or right-of-way.
⚠️

Public Street — Check Your City First

Placing a dumpster on a public street, sidewalk, or right-of-way typically requires a permit from your city — and the rules, fees, and processing times vary by municipality. Contact your city's public works or permitting office before scheduling a street-placed delivery.

Per-City Permit Status

⚠️ Permit requirements change. Always confirm with your city before street placement. This guide is a general reference only.

Three Things to Know Before You Book

🏘️

HOA Rules Apply Separately

If your property is governed by a homeowners association, your HOA may have its own rules about roll-off dumpsters — regardless of what the city requires. Check with your HOA before booking if you're uncertain. Most don't restrict private driveway placement, but it's worth a 5-minute email to confirm.

📋

Street Permits Are Your Responsibility

When a street permit is required, obtaining it before the delivery date is the customer's responsibility. We're happy to advise on the process based on our experience in each city, but we cannot apply for permits on your behalf. Plan for at least 2–3 business days for processing in cities that require them.

🚒

Always Clear Fire Hydrants and Access Points

Regardless of permit requirements, a dumpster placed near a fire hydrant, emergency vehicle access point, or crosswalk creates a safety hazard and is grounds for removal by the city at your cost. Always keep at least 15 feet of clearance from fire hydrants. Our drivers will flag any obvious placement issues before setting the container.

Ready to book? We'll handle placement — you handle the permit if needed.
